Sophie and Matthew got married at Eastwell Manor, which is the 16th century, luxury spa hotel in Kent with The charm of Eastwell Manor is what makes it one of the leading wedding venues in Kent. Originally built over 450 years ago, not only will the striking house look beautiful in your wedding photos but is sure to impress guests on your special day. It was a gorgeous day and the autumn sun during the couple portraits was perfect.

Tell me how you both met?

We met at the University of Portsmouth and soon discovered we both lived close to one another at
home. I didn’t know Matt’s first name for about the first 8 weeks of knowing him.

Tell me about the proposal?

I had the ring designed without Sophie knowing and planned to ask her to marry me whilst we were
visiting 3 different places in America. I was holding out to propose in Hawaii, but my bag got searched
on our way out to San Francisco and I felt like my cover was going to be blown!
We arrived in San Francisco and slept off the jet lag. The following moment, we went for a walk and I
found a remote area with a perfect view of the Golden Gate Bridge. Whilst Sophie was looking at it, I
got down on one knee. She couldn’t believe it!

How did you know that he/she was THE ONE? (your take)

I knew she was the one as soon as I realised how many differences there were between the two of us.
That way, life is never boring!

How did you know that he/she was THE ONE? (their take)

I knew he was the one quite quickly. He was the most attentive, caring person I’d ever met.

What made you choose your venue?

It was stunning and intimate. We viewed it in the spring and the grounds were absolutely
phenomenal. We loved the timeless nature of Eastwell Manor.

Was there a special moment of the day that stood out to you?

Walking down the aisle and taking a moment to process that we were finally about to get married
after all of the COVID pushbacks!

The ceremony

The ceremony was a beautiful service in the Bishop of Bayeux suite, which boasts ornate windows, wood-panelling and a show-stopping feature fireplace at the end of the aisle. You can also get married outside under their stunning Italian gazebo in the Maids Garden if you prefer. During the ceremony, Matthew's dad, who sadly had a stroke a few years ago, was determined to stand and hand Matthew the wedding rings. It was a really lovely moment and I'm glad I could capture it.

I love this venue because it's also a luxury spa and hotel, so it's perfect for those looking to spend a weekend here to get the most of what Eastwell Manor has to offer before moving on to your honeymoon. Weddings at Eastwell Manor are amazing because the grounds are just stunning. Especially the colours of the flowers during autumn.

After the ceremony

The couple got in touch with me years ago, and their inquiry was so personal. They said they loved the images I captured at Matthew's sister's wedding at The Knowle Country House, so it was really nice to see his family again and catch up briefly. I only live around the corner from Eastwell Manor which was a great bonus for me. Sophie & Matthew said nervously "we're not used to having our photo was taken"(who is) but later said how much they enjoyed working with me and seeing how I just blended in with their lovely guests. I take pride in this and after 10 years have developed particular skills to make couples forget I'm even there or set them up to feel more relaxed in front of me.

Advice for planning your wedding at Eastwell Manor

My biggest advice for couples wanting to get married at Eastwell Manor is to book their wedding photographer asap and start building your wedding timeline to suit not only you but the photographer's time as well so you're getting the most out of them and all the lovely locations Eastwell has to offer. This is something I always do, and as I only live around the corner, I'm happy to meet and walk around the venue with you to assure you we will make the most out of your time on the day.
